Working with Community Partners

To ensure that educational issues are appropriately addressed throughout local youth services, Student Advocacy’s staff regularly participates in community organizations including the following:

Campaign for Kids which advocates for county support for youth services.

Children’s Coordinated Services Initiative which addresses the development of the mental health system’s services for children.

Children’s Village and Family Services of Westchester to ensure educational advocacy services for youth in the county’s runaway shelter and for youth returning to the community from residential care.

Community Networks in Greenburgh, Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Ossining, Peekskill, Port Chester, Tarrytown, and Yonkers and Early Childhood Networks in Mount Vernon and Yonkers which help families to access a range of community services.

Putnam Roundtable which addresses the needs of children with disabilities in Putnam County.

Runaway and Homeless Youth Advisory Committee which promotes the development of county services for runaway and homeless youth.

Westchester County’s Single Point of Return Committee which plans for children returning to the community from a residential placement.

Yonkers Violence and Gang Prevention Coalition which focuses on promoting peaceful alternatives to violence.

Yonkers Juvenile Crime Enforcement Coalition which develops strategies to reduce juvenile crime in Yonkers.

Yonkers Truancy Reduction Task Force which puts services and new practices in place to prevent truancy and help children who are chronic truants.

Mt. Vernon Truancy Reduction Task Force which puts services and new practices in place to prevent truancy and help children who are chronic truants.

Mt. Vernon Suspension Response Team to support the development of more effective interventions for students who have been frequently suspended.
